what hollywood has taught us about the ticking time bomb scenario:

This shit with conservatives using a nighttime soap opera called "24" as some sort of argument in favor of torture has to end somewhere. At best it is selective, anecdotal referencing of the available data we have from the copious depictions of torture available from Hollywood.

Take, for example, this evidence from Rambo II:

That's right. Torture could just inspire your enemy to become a one man army and destroy an entire division of your forces in the space of a few minutes!

Granted, that was over 20 years ago, when men were still men. For a more current demonstration of the pussifying effects of torture, watch as James Bond's testicals are turned into pudding gravy without his ever giving away the password:

Over and over again the ineffectiveness of torture has been demonstrated by Hollywood analysts. Every Mel Gibson movie ever made, for example, is a scientifically verifiable plot point on the Hollywood Consensus on the Ineffectiveness of Torture. Who could forget the stirring lesson about torture from this famous demonstration:

Torture: you just end up with Scottish entrails all over your beautiful town square and the sounds of freedom ringing in the publics' ears: the very opposite effect you want from an interrogation policy!

"24" is a statistical outlier that has no place in a rational discussion of what Hollywood has taught us about this crude methodology. Seriously, Kiefer Sutherland over Sylvester Stallone? What the fuck was Limbaugh thinking when they drew up the invite list to that C-SPAN panel?

And never try to torture Chuck Norris, or Chuck Norris will torture you. If not with a boring fight scene, then possibly with his blog.
