venezuela:
"I am working to remove Chavez [from power]. Violence will allow us to remove him. That's the only way we have," said [two time Venezuelan president Carlos Andres Perez] in an interview published Sunday in El Nacional, one of Venezuela's main daily newspapers.
CAP, who was speaking from Miami, denied being involved in a plot to assassinate Chávez, but said Chavez "must die like a dog, because he deserves it."
There's a spokesman for the "democratic opposition", coincidentally the same man who Chavez tried to overthrow in a coup back in 1992, prior to CAP's being kicked out of office and convicted of embezzeling government funds.
There's a recall vote in Venezuela coming up on the 15th - one might note that the Chavez government implemented in the constitutional, among other democratic reforms - which means it's time to unleash empty platitudes, which is about as much as you'll see about in American papers aside from Chavez's dictatorial nature, as compared to, apparently, CAP's democratic nature. So Venezuela needs effective leadership - where's it going to come from? Washington, I suppose? COFA has a breakdown on the referendum. We expect Kerry, looking for a win in Florida, to promise the Venezuelan expat community that he'll re-invigorate the US campaign to run Venezuela.
