    this is getting personal:

    Last week Citibank suddenly increased the APR on this credit card I have from 12% to 30%, while the other banks simultaneously slashed the interest rate on my savings more than half to something like 1.5% and falling. Granted that the card has just sat unused at the bottom of a cardboard box in a closet underneath a heap of old electronics and dusty unread paperbacks since the day I got it, and that my personal savings rate as a component of after-tax income is an abnormally high, demand-destroying 50%. Nevertheless my previously impartial and detached consideration that the government should be lighting insolvent banks on fire has taken on a fine sheen of red mist.
