    schmuckery in iraq:

President Bush: "today, those who advocate violent opposition are being increasingly isolated by Sunnis who choose peaceful participation in the democratic process"? Uh, like, the attendees at the Cairo conference re-asserted that violent opposition was legit. Those disagreeing with this? Rummy. Anyway, at work, somebody else let me know if there's anything new in our 'new' strategy.

update: The New York Times seems to have imagined they saw something new, in a fairly desperate attempt to find in the speech what has long been the NYT Editorial Board's sole demand of Mr. Bush: that he acknowledge reality. I would defer back to the first Kerry-Bush debate in which he did a fine job of stressing how hard it would be to accomplish whatever it is he actually wanted to accomplish in Iraq. If that wasn't good enough for the NYT I don't see how this is.
