I always hear stuff like this when I get into these conversations: if only they had a Ghandi, or whoever, they'd have their state by now.
Well shit, maybe Ghandi just non-violently resisted an incoming tank shell, maybe their MLK was strapped to the hood of a jeep as a human shield when he was 12. Amritsar has become an ongoing ritual, but I have yet to see evidence of the desired impact on this country's politics.
This garbage is just so much abstract wanking on our part, we could stop Israeli violence tomorrow if we wanted to - we're the ones making it possible - but I don't see how that's going to happen: if a hundred thousand Israelis march against messianic policy it won't make a lick of difference without a million Americans marching with them.
And, may I add, we really need to stop using government as an asylum for the mentally insane.
