    I'm listening to Trent Lott apologizing at length on NPR, he's taking full responsibility for his remarks and singing a pean to the immorality of racism, and he feels just awful that anybody might have been offended. His explanation for how he might have said something that might cause so much offense: "I have a blind spot." His big idea for stomping out the legacy of racism? "Get a job".

    That's a fine idea, and with just a little hand waving you might be able to pretend that employment discrimination doesn't exist. I'm sure now Trent will be the first man up on the hill to call for additional funding for inner city schools and affirmative action after this big fuss is all over, assuming he somehow manages to keep his seat.
