It's just another iteration of any of the heresy panics. Predates them, too, in all likelihood. Radical authoritarians despise the people most like them and consider them their greatest threat. Michael Lind writes from the perspective of a radical authoritarian who likes homosexuals, abortions, "intelligent" imperialism and long walks on beaches where the crackers are kept in their place. The nasty wingnuts deny the legitimacy of the Constitutionally installed preznit. Boo hoo hoo. They've been doing that forever, in every state that ever existed, even when there was no liberal proceduralism to elevate the Big Cheese. They create nothing. They build nothing and their culture, if it can be called that, consists of badly plagiarized anti-authoritarianism. Their leadership is entirely parasitic and the followers are serial hysterics. Drawing an equivalence between them and radical drop-outs is supremely fatuous.
