are we counting from zero?..., 2009-04-11 02:21:43 | Main | inflating the housing bubble..., 2009-04-11 18:57:25

    glass it and start over:

This American Life episode #377 has a pretty amazing segment - Is the Condo Half Empty, or Is the Condo Half Full? - on how the neighborhood just north of me, Rogers Park, has been raped and ransacked by the depredations of the housing bubble.

If Dean Baker's legal remedy were in effect - forcing these properties that have been falling apart while they're in legal limbo to enter the rental market - this would not be nearly the mess it is.

Nothing the administration has done so far even begins to address the problems in neighborhoods like this. While my shock that they are really trying to re-inflate the credit bubble is becoming unsustainable, my shock that their plan (or lack of one) for the real estate market amounts to bulldozing it under is as yet entirely untapped.
