everybody knows that the naked man and the woman are just a shining artifact of the past:

It should be recalled that homosexuals have restricted rights over much of the globe and that Iran isn't unique in their harsh reactions against people expressing one of the few joys allotted to mankind by a cruel, guffawing universe.

In terms of how very far we have to go as a civilization it says something about us that this maltreatment of a gender minority is being exploited in a cynical, methodical political campaign to bomb them back to the dark ages of sexual reaction. How hard is it to figure that maybe if the US engaged in military strikes against Iran the Iranian Jerry Falwells who run their country would blame said homosexuals for it?

In any case the reaction of our wisemen of Columbia to the President's claim that there are no homosexuals in Iran was disappointing and, if appropriate for a lesser mob, not so much uncivil as unintelligible. If they'd bothered checking their notes on translation rather than wasting everybody's time repeatedly asking Ahmadinejad if he'd stopped beating his wife they would have had plenty of time to fit in a simple follow up to his bizarre dodge.

For example, instead of hissing at him some more the moderator might have replied, "If what you say is true perhaps you would consider striking all these laws from the books that deal with such figments of our imagination, in the interest of seeking peaceful relations between our countries?"

Cuz everybody knows we build those cruise missiles for the last ditch defense of gay sex.

update: It's nice to see that the President of Columbia University is so consistent in his criticism of foreign heads of state. What a lapdog.

Was no one else not-surprised by the Iranian president's comment about there being no homosexuals in Iran?
I recall the Japanese prime minister or similar high-up making the same claim about there being no homosexuals in Japan. Of course, this was back in the early 80's when he was expressing sympathy for the West's plight of the AIDS epidemic.
Yes, we can all agree that homosexuals exist. We just can't agree on where.
