Conspiracyville, USA. I don't
get it.
38. Do you think Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the September 11th,
2001 terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon?
Yes No DK/NA
9/22-23/02 51 33 16
2/10-12/03 42 42 16
3/7-9/03 45 40 15
Three countries had ties to the culprits of 9/11: Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.
Evidence linking Iraq amounts to one man from an Al Qaeda cell in Kurdish controlled northern Iraq
allegedly recieving medical treatment in Bagdhad - that's it. There was
no meeting in Prague.
Iraq has been offering the US
[2]
a most wanted terrorist
since 1994, and
as with Sudan
the US isn't the least bit interested. Lord knows why, but either way Saddam didn't do it.
There are some other
interesting results in the Times poll, but this
was the only one that asks something that has some basis in probable fact rather than opinionated conjecture
and - like the public
usually does when given the opportunity - this demonstrates that they
haven't been given probable fact, just a lot of charlatan spin.
It's probably a given that the belief that Saddam was involved in 9/11 is fueling
support for war. Maybe I'm confounding the variables and support for war
is actually fueling the belief that Saddam was behind 9/11 - it probably is in some
quarters, as when el Rushbo says
"
I don't think this has ever been about linkage to al-Queda. ... I think that's added icing on the cake."
It just rings of hollow conspiracy theory to me. A less clueless America has to be possible.
