    Is there no brendan o'neill-ty..., 2005-11-11 12:16:54 | Main | Frank Gaffney on C-SPAN blamin..., 2005-11-14 07:10:18

Caught a bit of a Bill Clinton speech at the U of Minnesota on NPR last night: Hugo Chavez is a loudmouth 'demagogue who offers a lot of easy answers' who can act high and mighty while oil prices stay above $50/barrel (I can safely predict, on this basis, that Hugo Chavez has a very long and rewarding career ahead of him) while the existential threat facing the continent of Africa can be resolved by giving Africans jobs sewing our t-shirts. Bill Clinton keeps one such t-shirt in his closet so that he can gaze upon it every morning, to remind him of the way forward.

He was in top form, perfectly channelling the irreducible mindlessness of Thomas Friedman: their purpose is to clothe us, and they like it.
