According to the liberal New York Times a liberal politician running for the Senate has been misrepresenting himself as a Vietnam vet. This shouldn't be too shocking, there are a lot more people who claim to have served in Vietnam than actually did serve in Vietnam. It's not that unusual that they collect benefits for the imagined service, nor that they run for public office on their military record. It's strange, though, that the latter happens. The odds of winning an election are much, much better if you somehow dodged the draft during Vietnam than if you served. The last five presidential elections demonstrated quite clearly the hostile reaction that has been directed at veterans of Vietnam.
That's the fun thing about the Blumenthal story: the delicious irony. Scandal pie always tastes best with irony filling:
Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) had an affair with a part-time staffer named Tracy Jackson, Fox is reporting. Jackson played the role of interviewer for a Souder Web video show ... on the value of abstinence.
