Juan Cole doesn't deign to include neo-liberals, though it seems like most of the assorted sad sacks of the DLC and centrist hawk persuasion could probably be blanketed by the above statement, if I only had a lexis nexus account to doublecheck the first half of it. The price of never wanting to say anything controversial is never having anything interesting to say. That's almost a friedman-worthy bromide, t'ain't it.

If Cole wanted to concise and precise about it, he could have gone back to Truman, making use of the Muslim Brotherhood as a counterweight against Nasser and then on to Zbigniew's realpolitick scheme. Throw in Clinton's facilitation of the Bosnian conflict and his insane policy of backing the KLA in Kosovo. There's not a whole lot of glory in this!
The egregious Friedman is such a spiteful and foolish man.
